Review on Scitec 2510E Single Emergency Phone by Michelle Larson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Classic phone with some imperfections

**EDIT IN REVIEW BELOW** After experimenting with some of the Cisco ATA settings I was able to resolve the issue with silent DTMF and unresponsive buttons. I did this by setting the FXS port impedance to 900. The default value is 600. I also increased the FXS port power limit to 5. For this reason I am also increasing my rating for this product to 4 stars is now a working phone. !In general, the phone is good. Note this is a rebranded Cortelco 250047VBA20MD (Made in China model). The phone carries the Cetis brand, which sells phones for hotels, hospitals, etc. It has a very loud and pleasant ringtone with high and low settings. While not much inside, there's a light weight that helps give the base a heavier feel. This, combined with the large rubber feet, means this phone doesn't slide off the table as easily. The sound quality of the microphone and speaker is also excellent. Note that I am using this phone with a Cisco SPA112 SIP Analog Phone Adapter ("ATA"). A tip to improve ATA call performance is to set the call settings to Sine Wave, 90V, 25Hz. I was concerned that the call might not work properly on the ATA (which is a common problem with some ATAs), but I had no problems with these settings. The REN of this phone is listed as 1.1B. My only complaint about this phone is the keypad. I noticed two problems: First, the DTMF tones generated by this phone are very quiet. This often leads to incorrect selections because the tones are not always recorded correctly. Other phones I have don't show this issue so I'm assuming it's a defect. Another drawback I noticed today is that the asterisk (*) and hash (#) keys don't always work when picking up the phone. This is particularly annoying when you need to dial a service code (e.g. to access voicemail). These two keys only work properly after you press the number key. I'm guessing it's a bug again. Unfortunately, this problem with DTMF tones and the keyboard is a handicap for me. Despite its flaws, its classic looks and color make it a good decoration and conversation piece.
