I have used a tripod but the problem is that the legs take up a lot of space making it a bit difficult to position the screen when space is needed limited. This device is ideal for many different use cases. I used it when I needed a second screen while working without taking up space on my desk. And also on the bedside table. The base is heavy and stable even when I put the 12.9 inch iPad on a stand like in the picture. The height is easily adjustable. And I'm also using it for my kid's virtual piano and ballet lessons during Covid19. Highly recommended, especially as the price is cheaper than most brands in its class.
