I have searched for hours the last few months reading reviews for light blocking drapes. It is very hard to find a pair of drapes/curtains that truly block the light. I don't have many trees close to the house. It gets REALLY REALLY sunny here. These will block light, and very well. They don't exactly look/feel like velvet but they they are soft and pliable. I bought the taupe but found these have quite a bit of brown; I thought they would be more grayish. Of course naming a color can be subjective. But they look great in another room. One review complains about a poly feel and cheap. I know fabrics and yes it is poly but not cheap. the are rather heavy but move well. There are no pinholes, missed stitches, off colored stitches, wrinkling. I hung them and the few long wrinkles fell away. Don't hesitate buying these if you really need light blocking. These work.
