I don't know if they just changed it but when I got it it was rolled shiny side up which should be the side that should be down but when you load it into the machine that comes out shiny side to the fore. walk. As for the heat transfer itself, I've done it on shirts, headbands and even neoprene and it's beautiful. It looks very nice and formal on clothes and is doing a good job stretching on hats and shirts so far. Be sure to wait 24 hours before washing but when I did it still came out perfect and undamaged.
