Bought for my 4 (almost 5) year old little girl who LOVES being a part of her older brother's Lego creations. There are many things I love about this set and a few things that make it difficult, at least for its age. If you want to make smaller creations, you do NOT need to open all the bags and start sorting the pieces by shape, color, etc. The twelve bags have a small number printed on them with a letter at the end, and this correlates to twelve different smaller creations you can make. The instruction book at the bottom right of the page lists the bag number for each item you can craft. It's easiest to work with one bag at a time as you complete each item. If you want to start with a big castle you need all the parts so you need to collect all the bags. Second, the instructions actually give you TWO different little creations you can make with each little bag. Two different types of wagons, two different types of bedrooms, etc. In fact, in this small booklet you will find instructions on how to build 25 different buildings related to the castle. Pretty cool. Pros: Of course, variety is a plus. My daughter loves the colors. It is very sweet. It also fits Lego. It offers hours of building fun. And the price is phenomenal. Cons: Parts fit STRONG. Much narrower than Lego. And they are 98% the SMALLEST shapes possible. Tiny squares with one bump or tiny rectangles with two bumps. Lots and lots of little pieces that are very difficult to squeeze together. Because of this my daughter's fingers just aren't strong enough most of the time and to be honest I fight half the time and my fingers hurt afterwards (and with 4 kids I'm an accomplished lego builder). Since she can't do it herself, she gets bored. In fact, I manage it by trying to engage and interest them. Also, it takes a minute to get used to the manual. Unlike Lego, this company squeezed instructions for 4 COMPLETE builds into a double spread of the book. picture attached. But once you get the hang of it, it becomes detailed and understandable. It's just not something my daughter could do unaided at her age. Spare parts are not supplied. If you lose a tiny piece, you lose what you needed to build. Lego offers additional smallest details. Not this product. Finally, the tight-fitting pieces (and their tiny size) make them very difficult to disengage once they snap into place. Forget about taking it apart yourself. You need a wedge tool that is thin and strong. With that said, it basically got me into NOT building things multiple ways because it's just pretty difficult (and painful after a while) to put the pieces together and hard work to take apart . So I forgo variety, which is a bonus of this set. I'm glad we bought it and maybe when our daughter gets older and stronger she'll still be interested enough to do it herself. Nice product. Can be difficult and tedious.
