I'm older and can't read fine print so didn't see the instructions on how to turn on the switch on the base. I pressed all the buttons on the top of the device and on the remote control and nothing happened. I wanted to see if I could get it back. But then, Lo! Okay, so this ceramic heater is quiet and vibrates nicely. Because of its small footprint, it covers a lot of area - much less than the heater we used, which doesn't cover much beyond what's in front of it. We have bare concrete floors that keep us cool in the summer but get very cold in the winter, adding to how cold we feel indoors, even with slippers on. I installed this heater from the door between the living room and dining/kitchen area overlooking our living room and swung it both ways. That's probably a little more than the 330 square feet this heater is supposed to cover, but it heats everything up quickly and well. remotely or on the device itself. Tried everything to make sure it worked, then settled on only lateral vibration after the rooms had warmed up. It did not last long. I picked it up and it turned off immediately, so the handpiece control works. This heater has 2, 4 and 8 hour timer settings but apparently no thermostat control. I don't know if it's because it's a ceramic heater that heats things in the room, not just the air. I have never owned a ceramic heater before so this is new to me. I like the kind of warmth; It feels like the whole room is gradually warming up, but it's not like having a big fan blowing hot air around you. It also doesn't seem to dry out the air like a traditional heater does. We turned on the ceiling fan in updraft mode (to move heat from the ceiling back into the room) and left this heater on full blast for the entire 10 minutes. I had to keep it to a minimum and then turn it off after a while as at that point sunlight was coming in through the windows and the room was quite warm. I think that will be effective, so we can try lowering the temperature from 67 to 66. I like my room cool, but my roommate gets too cold. If he uses them in his room while watching TV and sleeping, he can definitely reduce the electricity consumption compared to heating the whole house. Then he can bring it into the living room in the morning while we drink coffee to warm up. This heater is expensive compared to some ceramic heaters on the market, but it heats up quickly (read slower) and looks very smooth; Dyson style appearance.
