Our door is 30 inches wide so it fits snugly without the need for a lot of spacers.
We use this gate at our basement entrance to keep the cat out. We have a commercial microgreen growing area there and it's not allowed in the area. She weighs 8 pounds. and cannot go through the bars. She knows she can't fit in, so she never tries to squeeze through. Kittens I think will do. Our door is 30 inches wide so it fits snugly without having to attach much to the door. If your door is much wider, you may have a gap that a small cat can fit through, but not one that weighs 10 pounds or more. I don't think even a small dog could do it. It's very durable, the gate closes and locks by itself. Very convenient for our needs.
