Review on Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Art DC HSM Lens - Canon Compatible, Black (210101) by Hiral Kumar ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is top notch and I recommend the product for purchase.

USB Dock will save a lot of time and nerves instead of going to the alignment service. You can set not just corrections for WIDE-TELE, but also intermediate zoom positions, and even different distances. It's just incredible. After spending a day or two, you can very, very accurately fit the glass. Combined with the 70D, regular phase and LV combo AF produce very similar results. LV, of course, is more accurate and stable, with almost no misses in principle. I was worried from reviews that different corrections may be required at different distances. But already from the store everything was very good. Sometimes there are minor slips in really difficult conditions. For example, shooting against a window on a bright day, when the main object occupies less than 10-15% of the frame, while it is barely illuminated by a dead and very yellow incandescent lamp. But no lens will feel perfect in such conditions - this is stressful for any optics and AF system. Picture . purebred. Exactly like this. There is some kind of lamp analogy in semitones. It seems that the plane of focus is exactly a plane, and not a hemisphere. I do not pretend to be scientific, just my subjective opinions. At the edges of the frame, mechanical vignetting is very slight; blurry kruglyashi are only slightly trimmed. Everything is great close to the center. Onion rings, which almost all Sigmas have, I did not notice. Nuts do not tighten for a very long time. At least on 4-5,6 haven't seen them yet. 9 petals, after all. Sharpness is good from 1.8. With 2.0, contrast is added. Although on 1.8 there are no problems with this. That is, with very subtle ambient lighting, the lens feels confident - this is its element. Deep shadows, smooth penumbra. The lens finds light even where it would seem that there is none at all. All this does not turn into a hodgepodge. At 4.0, the sharpness is already ringing. The motor is quiet and really fast. But still heard on the video if you use the built-in microphone. In general, a chic lens, for those who need it and who understand.

Pros
  • 1. The quality of the body materials used; 2. Quality workmanship and fitting parts, the AF switch is stylish and clicks with delicious quality sound, has a white line for greater visibility; 3. Comfortable rubberized zoom and focus rings with a pleasant ride; 4. Weight: weight is reliable.,-); 5. Convenient beautiful hood with an internal corrugated surface and a "correct" lens cap; 6. Complete set: traditionally Sigma puts a semi-rigid pouch with a zipper that can be attached to a belt; I have never practically used these cases, but it is very nice, I already said about the lens hood above; 7. Very quiet and nimble motor; 8. Very accurate and confident AF, if the carcass makes friends with a specific specimen - mine was the only one in the store, but it completely suited me; 9. Sharp on the open, very sharp!; 10. Pleasant blur and pattern, not ugly "correct" nature of distortion, despite the fact that this is a zoom; 11. Sigma USB Dock - inexpensive, and allows you to very accurately rebuild the lens for a specific carcass; 12. Design: exactly the design dictated by logic and common sense, and not what everyone usually understands: it feels like the glass was designed by people who shoot for the same; the zoom mechanism is made in a single housing without any moving trunks, when zooming and focusing, of course, the blocks move inside, which affects the weight distribution and, as a result, if you use a steadicam for video, there is an imbalance, but it is very insignificant. The use of a compedium and/or a battery pack already completely eliminates the imbalance, no reconfiguration is required. Zooms with trunks have to be rebuilt much longer.
Cons
  • Some will inevitably appear during operation, but so far there are only enthusiastic epithets. Is the zoom range too small? But it's 1.8 on the whole range. There is no desire to climb into a swamp, a dusty desert or under heavy rain with this lens: dust and moisture protection is in question. But so, sorry, such shootings on a fee should fully cover any risks on equipment in any case. Someone will say - weight, but personally it's more convenient for me to balance the camera with the battery pack. Well . perhaps the only USB Dock, since Sigma offers this, it would be nice to have some kind of memory bank with its own settings for each carcass.
