For some info on who I am as a reviewer, I've worked at Xbox for 16 years as a 3D graphic designer (GPU expert), I've worked on Microsoft Kinect (which is a RGB+ IR Depth Camera) and Microsoft HoloLens. I am disappointed in this product and feel like a victim of the old bait and switch. This camera has background removal and even additional sensors, which you think means it's done in hardware. nope To do this, you need to download ChromaCam software, which will remove the background on your PC. It works like this: the software creates a virtual camera, which reads the stream from the camera, runs the background removal algorithm (your system loads and introduces a delay), and then outputs it as a new camera. It turns out that only certain apps are supported, which somehow you know to look for the software version of the camera. For example, it doesn't work with the built-in camera app for Windows 10 (but it does work for Xsplit and OBS, which is what most people want). Problem #1: Background removal is not very good. It seems to fight hair, which is why you end up looking bald by chopping your head off a few inches. I've tried all types of front and back lighting. (Which shouldn't really matter for IR depth tech.) Sometimes all parts of my skin (not my arms, not my neck, not my head) disappeared and I looked like an empty shirt. It really is THAT bad. Problem #2: Background removal puts heavy load on your system. I got this for my son's mid-range computer ($800). The camera works better on my expensive ($2000) PC. Problem #3: Terrible lag. deal breaker. On my son's computer, a simple test that says a quick "Wow!", you hear me exclaim, and then 1/2 second later my mouth moves. Problem #4: There are no software settings to configure the above. No background removal sensitivity. By no means should you say shoot in 1280x720 (or even 640x480) rather than 4K so there's less processing and therefore less lag. The Logitech settings and ChromaCam settings are really kept to a minimum. Problem #5: ChromaCam software costs $30 or you get a watermark. That's the least of my worries. The only good thing about this camera is the 4K quality when not using background removal. But as my title suggests, most people want the background removed so they can overlap in the corner when streaming a game. In this case, your image is only 300 x 200 pixels, so 4K is not suitable. This is the lower end of the camera that usually justifies the $170+ price tag. And just because the quality is just too low to be useful, I don't recommend this camera. Even if you have a powerful system to run software and have a better experience than me, the reviews for the C922x Pro Stream are the same. , and this camera is half the price. (But since it also requires a ChromaCam, good luck!) As a side note, I've spent hours playing around with this thing and the big red flag was that almost all of the content, reviews and advice on this camera has been online for over a year old. This is not mid-2018 technology. This is early 2017 technology.
