I have 8 solar lights that I use to clear snow every winter. They are 40" tall and the tubular hollow supports are 7/8" in diameter and made of plastic. Light assemblies are placed in holes in the floor. As the surrounding soil freezes and shrinks, the poles crack and snap. Woodpecker wood dowels are inserted about 4 inches into the posts and secured with tape. The posts are then set into the ground so that an 8 inch wooden dowel touches the ground. The headlights stay in place except when I sometimes run over them. Great article.
