I've used tools my whole life. My father was a mechanic and some of my earliest memories of him giving him tools while on a caterpillar under a car or truck. I have worked with cars, trucks and motorcycles, plumbing, electrical and building my own home and am very impressed with this 3 piece pliers set. Some pliers I currently have are 3 to 8 times more expensive than these, but they are quite comparable in price. I wouldn't call them professional, but they are very useful for everyday use. The size of the side cutter suits me. They are approximately 185mm (7 1/2 inches) long and have a durable rubber grip on the handles that are long enough for my very large hands. They are good for cutting copper or aluminum, but it can be difficult to cut steel larger than a nail. Needle nose pliers are also a very good size, about 205mm (over 8 inches) overall, with jaws over 65mm (almost 3 inches) and small wire cutters. Pliers for water pumps. If you look closely, they're probably different than what you have in your toolbox. Most water pump pliers have the tongue-and-groove design invented by Channellock under almost that name, regardless of brand. These pliers use a design called a box joint. One handle has a slot and the other handle is inserted through this slot. This linkage withstands high loads because the bolt is journalled on both sides and the inner handle is double, has 10 adjustments from 0 to 55mm (about 2 inches) and locks when the jaws are parallel. Be careful not to pinch your fingers between the handles. I have many pliers but after receiving this set I almost regret not having received a 4 or 5 piece set. The linesman's tongs look very nice. Again, they may not be professional, but they are very good, and a good lineman's pliers alone can cost twice as much as this entire set. For the average person, they should serve very well.
