Review on πŸ“± FLIRC USB Universal Remote Control Receiver: Effortlessly Command All Your Devices with One Remote by Rich Ferguson

Don't forget to configure USB

This applies to Flirc and Harmony Elite with Nvidia Shield Pro Control Hub. This feature requires the Harmony app running Android 8 and my app is installed on an Android 7 device. The Harmony desktop app won't pair Bluetooth for unknown reasons. So Flirc is here to help. It worked great after doing two things: (1) Adding Flirc as a device to Harmony and creating a Watch Shield Action that only included Flirc, TV and Receiver. (No shield). (2) Downloading the Flirc software and using the Shield profile to learn commands. Note: Because the Harmony Elite outputs to a hub, and the hub emits an IR signal, you must use an IR repeater to program Flirc. When doing this, make sure your volume control is actually the shield volume - mine was issuing volume commands to my receiver, so I had to toggle it back for flirc programming - otherwise the shield will show an annoying message because it's receiving volume commands meant for something are different. And an unexpected third step (3). Turns out you need to go into display settings and make sure the USB port used by Flirc is 'always on'. After that it works great. I'm glad about that, especially when Logitech nipped Harmony in the bud.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Expensive
