I originally got this basket for pho noodles (mung bean noodles, not rice noodles) and meat. This is good because I can use it in a variety of pots. Noodles tend to get stuck or fall out of the basket when cooked for a long period of time so I would not recommend this product for this purpose. However, when I used this for cuts of meat (à la hot pot) or fried squid, shrimp, and scallops, it worked really well. Therefore, it may not be suitable for all foods, but it is suitable for most foods. I would stay away from thin and flexible products. It's easy to clean. The dishwasher does this quickly and it's nice that it folds flat for easy/flat storage.
