I like that it allows us to work with our own file structure instead of having all files stored at one location. It has been very easy for me to learn how things are done since there are so many tutorials available online as well! There aren't any downsides really; just make sure you have enough resources (hardware/cpu) if this software will be used by more than 1 person or department within your organization because it can get quite heavy once multiple users start using it simultaneously. We use openpdm mainly because we need something fairly simple but robust when managing several projects across departments. This helps ensure everyone's information stays up-to date without causing too much confusion over who owns what piece of info.
