Review on Fujinon XF14mm F2.8 R Lens by David Foster

Revainrating 5 out of 5

More versatile than I thought

I've had this lens for a long time and finally decided to give a review. I won't go into detail; everything that has already been said or written. This lens is often compared to the 16 1.4 but I wanted something wider and as I mainly use it for landscapes the 2.8 is fine and I often stop it much further away. IQ and color are fantastic, especially when shooting with Velvia. Also, by the way, it's a bit smaller, lighter and cheaper. However, I sometimes wish it was a little longer as I also wanted to do street photography and thought 14 (21mm equivalent) was too wide. Well, I almost bought an 18 or 27 pancake for an upcoming trip to Europe, but wait! I have an XT-3 and it occurred to me that there is a Sport Finder mode with 1.25 crop. Now that 21mm is 26mm I didn't have to buy an 18 after all, all in all a great and versatile wide angle lens. I wasn't sure I was going to keep it after 16-80 f4 came out, but now I could. This 2.8 allows me to use it for landscapes, astros, indoors and now outdoors at 26mm with my XT-3. No regret.

Pros
  • F2.8 maximum aperture; Minimum F22
Cons
  • Little things
