I have used Subaru filters before, in fact I still have some left. Only the best for my Subi! Then I found out it was just a renamed Fram "Extra Guard" filter, one of the cheapest filters. Fram cuts corners by replacing the metal endplates with fiberboard and using a plastic relief valve/spring assembly. This Fram brand filter typically costs less than four dollars. Save money and buy a fram if you like it, but I want real original quality. Now I'm buying Purolator, an OEM from Subaru USA before they switched suppliers. For about the same money as one of those Purolator "Red" or "One" filters are excellent with the correct bypass pressure setting for Subaru. Genuine parts are always a bit inferior, but this is one of those rare occasions when I feel like Subaru is ripping off its customers.
