This Aluminum Fuel Line does not require a flare

I ordered a 3/8 aluminum fuel line and it arrived very quickly - great job Revain! If you are connecting this line to a rubber gas hose, there are some installation tips online that state that the ends of this aluminum fuel line should be crimped, essentially creating a slight lip on the end to better prevent the rubber hose from twisting solves . However, most restorers and locksmiths do not deal with designs. What you need to do (highly recommended) is to use a rubber hose that is slightly smaller than the line. For example, all of my carburetor and fuel pump fittings are 5/16" and connect to a 5/16" Gates Barricade rubber hose. A 3/8" aluminum tube fits more tightly into a 5/16" rubber hose than a 5/16" aluminum tube. (Porsche OEM standards: 8mm aluminum tubes and 7mm rubber hoses and fittings). So increase the size of the aluminum tubing one size larger than the rubber tubing you are connecting to. Also, don't waste your money on a rubber gas hose, instead use Gates Barricade's rubber fuel line, which is rated to withstand the acidity of today's ethanol-based fuels. When restoring a car, replace all rubber fuel hoses anywhere in the car (front, frame, engine compartment, etc.) with a Gates barricade, as new fuel will corrode old rubber gas hoses very quickly. The result of a ruptured fuel line is usually a fire, and nobody wants their project to burn down.
