Review on Jetdirect EW2400 1USB Rohs Compliant by James Nielsen

Nice box but expensive

I used this external JetDirect print server to replace a Linksys print server that was picking up a lot of junk from other radios nearby. Linksys was cheaper, but HP works fine. I used the standard JetDirect software to set up the device, but found that the printer setup failed when it came time to download drivers from the HP website. It didn't really matter - I still had the printer drivers on the computer. I stopped the installation process and manually set the JetDirect TCP/IP printer port and mapped the current printer to that port. I set a static IP address for the JetDirect device using the JetDirect configuration software and used the same IP address that was assigned to the Linksys device. Computers that printed to the Linksys box now print to the JetDirect box without any further setup. Very good product but very high price for it. In hindsight I should have originally bought a printer with a built in JetDirect card, but that was years ago when we only had one computer. With the JetDirect box, my printer doesn't have the problems I previously had with the Linksys print server.
