We used clips to install C7 lights on our gutter. The clip attached easily to the gutter and stayed in place fairly well, allowing us to tug on the light cord a bit to straighten the string of lights. We thought we could secure them in the sole fork section with the lightstick pointing straight ahead. But this part of the clamp would not support NOMA C7 lamps in this orientation. They fell out easily enough. We chose to use a C-shaped coil at the bottom of the clip and attach it to the light wire rather than the lantern itself. Because the clamps provided enough tension on the wire, we were able to rotate the light to the orientation we wanted (light up or down) and then slide the clamp along the slide to pull the rope to straighten the light. turned out really nice. For NOMA C7 lights, they are spaced approximately every 4 inches along the cord; where their C9 lights were about 8 inches apart. So we chose the C7 to double the number of lights along the chain, rather than using fewer of the larger C9s commonly used in gutters or taller rigs. It was just a design decision. The clips helped us orient the light, with all of the other bulbs either facing up or down. Because of this, the installation looked as if two threads of light had been installed in parallel. So the clamps worked perfectly, albeit not by design. I would like to point out that the part of the sole fork clip that protrudes over the gutter is shown in the listing as holding the lightball over the gutter. Gutter came off VERY easily. So much so that we wondered if it was meant to take off. When installing clamps on the gutter, at least 10% of them broke off when we didn't even try to use that part of the clamp. which, judging by its photos, wasn't even meant to be used. So be careful when installing them depending on how you use them.
