Maybe not for most, but it was made alongside the new space gray MacBooks, and you're not buying a MacBook Pro where price is your only variable. If you have a USB-C MacBook and still use SD regularly, I think this reader is worth the investment compared to several others I've tried and they all seem really cheap. handles the MacBook Pro's finish perfectly, unlike most third-party peripherals.
