I bought this along with other USB cables to find the best option for my external hard drives. I have several external hard drives. The cables I already have have a big impact on speed. With the same hard drive but with different cables, I can get speeds from 40MB/s to 175MB/s. I have faster 250MB/s hard drives but haven't tested them. Since one cable only delivers 40MB/s, I figured I'd need new cables. With these cables I could get a maximum speed of 105 MB/s. This has been tried with multiple cables on multiple hard drives. Using the same test, I can get a sustained speed of 175 MB/s with other cables. If I want them for external hard drives. I would look elsewhere.
