I have a Garmin installed in my RIB with a plastic case/deck. It worked great and is holding up great so far. The instructions say to pour some water on the transducer to fill any voids between the transducer and the case. I do this every time and it's been working really well for the past few months. No holes in the boat, no catching when pulling the boat out of the water. I'm sure this will work fine in a kayak, but it would be better if you could find a level spot to set it up. I would give it 5 stars but not sure how it will hold up in a year or so on the case.
