not fully waterproof

This is a brilliant product. The constant problem with installing a through-body sonar transducer is that little sticks to the HDPE. However, this product was not waterproof for the case. I'm going to buy a small piece of tape, 3M 300LSE, and see if I can patch the leaking corner. I also had to cut the foam to better fit the sensor. However, it remains to be seen whether it is actually still waterproof.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Large and bulky

Does not work on aluminum boats!

I ordered this product with a portable sonar kit. Before buying I read several reviews that said it works with aluminum boats. Note: This will not work if you want to see depths less than 8 feet or read depth at speeds greater than 10 mph. works with little effort!

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Hard to say

Would buy again: Marine GPS Accessory

Works great with my Garmin 551DV and GT20-LM. One side has 3M adhesive which is pretty sticky. You must add water when you insert the sensor, otherwise it will not work. I've also used marine sealant to seal the inside (where the water goes) to keep water from seeping through, but I'm sure it will work without it. I LOVE not having to add or disturb my kayak because it's installed inside! Zero chance of hitting rocks and damaging the sensor!

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Not for all marine electronics kayaks

I'm sure this product will work for some but for me it was a waste of money. I have a large sit up tandem kayak so it has four holes in the bottom and I found that I could just thread the transducer cable through one of them and pull it up. It fits perfectly and I used a small elastic to keep it in place. Works much better than in a kayak. I would recommend trying different things with your kayak before making this purchase as it was a lot of money for what is essentially a block of foam…

Really goes with the transducer

I have a Garmin installed in my RIB with a plastic case/deck. It worked great and is holding up great so far. The instructions say to pour some water on the transducer to fill any voids between the transducer and the case. I do this every time and it's been working really well for the past few months. No holes in the boat, no catching when pulling the boat out of the water. I'm sure this will work fine in a kayak, but it would be better if you could find a level spot to set it up. I would give…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Sticks well and holds water. not working

my duct seal works fine, old marine goop works fine. but foam + water doesn't give a good picture for some reason. The plus is that I can just take it out and test it directly in the water to make sure it works. But I fill it up with water and it just pushes in well. And then I see erratic, alternately weird signals when I can't tell the depth. I really wanted this to work but ended up doing Ductseal + Vaseline and it was reliable. Another plus is that I don't have to add water, which I didn't…

Waste of money, do some research

I found this to be an incredibly expensive piece of styrofoam with little glue on it. Several do-it-yourself options are discussed on various kayaking websites that work much better and cheaper. While I appreciate and own other Garmin products, this didn't work for me and I wouldn't recommend it, especially considering how overpriced it is. After spending about $25 on it, the $3 I spent on sewer putty at the hardware store was the best investment. This product's configuration was also not…
