Review on Lawrence Frames 795057 Black Wooden Shadow Box Frame - 5x7 Inch Treasure Box Design by Ashley Leckie

Not enough room for more than 1mm art

I'm an artist and all my work is done on a cardboard back with a mount and my art didn't fit in a frame. However, this is a really high quality frame, very sturdy, and it's a "real" 5"X7" as that's the size of my precut mats and planks. However, a 3/4" insert is included to turn the frame into a removable shadowbox. This allowed me to use my art blocks, which I cropped (3/8"), framed, and customized my art! It's perfect for my purposes. In a way, I was able to make the frame even flatter with spacers. So it was a little more set in and I was able to attach the back, but it was a bit of an effort. If this frame had there was a foam backing like others want I could remove it for my purposes and my art would fit (since that's how it works for other frames I have). In addition to the 5"x7" size, I'm excited to see that this frame also comes in 8"x10" and 12"x12" sizes, but I would particularly like this in a 11" X14" and 16"X20". The best flat shadow frame I've found for my purposes and I would only use this frame in different sizes if they wore it. After a few months I'm now teaching a drawing class, and I recommend that my students buy this frame if they want to use the frame (although I have to provide them with my alternative frame spacers, as I mentioned).

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Annoying
