I grew up with my father's Estwing hammer and I know it has rightfully taken its place in the pantheon of great American tools. Unfortunately, either Estwing's quality control has caved in or Revain is supplying factory seconds. I'm looking at this model's returns head-to-head due to handle QC errors, both significant. The first hammer I received had a BENT handle. See photos. I didn't even know you could do that to Eastwing. Wow. The second hammer's leather disc handle was ground so unevenly that I don't think the steel is bent, but the handle isn't straight. Again, see photos. If you're used to swinging a straight-handled hammer, it will affect your accuracy. Annoying mistakes are the regrinding of the grip neck and a high burr that remains on the butt plate. These defects are considered either production disruptions or a sign that quality is generally trending at Estwing. The leather handle version of this hammer is a premium product. Estwing needs to step up his game and keep those losers out of the door.
