My comments below are based on installing a new set of wheels and tires with new TPMS sensors installed in each wheel. When I say "tire" I mean a complete tire, wheel and sensor. I got this tool the other day and while it seems to be doing what it's supposed to do, setting it up with the software and driver was a real pain. I am an advanced computer user and the online manual installation steps do not match the actual software installation steps. The online manual (which I printed out during the installation phase for convenience) includes a link to a website in case the user has trouble downloading the driver software. This link turns out to be completely "failed" (Error 404). My suggestion and experience for downloading software is to visit the Ateq website, click on the support link at the top of the homepage and select "Downloads" from the drop down menu. On the download page, click on the TPMS Speed Dial image, then on the next page, locate and select and download the software and/or other information you require. I was able to install the software from the CD that came with it, but the driver software would not load. I downloaded the driver software from the website and the installation was pretty smooth from there. It took two attempts to download the existing (summer tire) TPMS IDs from my car's ECU via the OBD port. The first time after uploading IDs to the QuickSet tool, when I plugged the USB cable back into my computer (my computer is running Windows 7 64-bit, by the way), the application complained about a communication error. I went back to my car's OBD port and reloaded the existing TPMS IDs and this time when I plugged the USB cable back into my computer it successfully read the IDs for my current summer tires. I am preparing to remove the summer tires. , switched to my new winter tires and manually added the new Winterset TPMS IDs to the tool software. This process went smoothly. The new TPMS IDs were provided by the installer (TireRack), which is mandatory, otherwise the vehicle's TPMS ECU will not be able to identify the new tires. As expected, these IDs were only 7 characters long, so I added a leading "0" (zero) to each ID as the tool only recognizes TPMS IDs that are 8 characters long. The next step is to upload the TPMS IDs of the winter tires to the vehicle's ECU via the OBD port using the QuickSet tool. I'll report back after this step to see how the tool works with this part of the process. Overall I think Ateq has a good tool for the most part, but their instructions leave a lot to be desired. ****Next steps below****Okay, I'm back after I installed the snow tires. Reading the owner's manual, the instructions on how to upload new TPMS IDs to the vehicle's ECU are useless! I have already entered the IDs of my new winter tires in the QuickSet tool as described above. With that done and my new tires mounted on my car, I simply took the tool, turned the ignition key to "ON" (but without starting the engine), plugged the tool into the OBD connector, pressed the "Winter" icon. on the instrument and waited to see what happened. The green light on the tool flashed after the tool was plugged into the OBD port. Then, a few seconds later, after the tool light turned green, I unplugged the tool from the OBD port and started the car. After the car's normal starting lights came on (including the low tire icon), all of the lights that should have gone out, including the low tire icon, came on. At this point I assumed that the winter tire IDs were successfully loaded into the ECU. I then drove the car for a few minutes while the vacuum icon stayed off. To make sure the new TPMS sensor IDs are being read from the newly fitted tires, I deflated one of the tires and started the car. The low pressure icon lit up for a few seconds after all the icons on the dash disappeared. After inflating the tire back to the correct pressure, I restarted the car and the low tire icon stayed on as expected, and after a few seconds the icon went out! In my estimation the tool will do exactly what it is supposed to do, but the instructions will need to be completely rewritten by someone who can logically go through each important step and clearly explain what to expect during first time use and driver setup and usage. Tool. I would love to do this if I get paid as I'm sure I could do a much better job of explaining all the steps required to set up and use this tool.
