Review on πŸ”§ VIM Tools HBR12 Ratchet with Enhanced Ratcheting Capability by Matt Simpson

Disappointed: Socket

First of all I was disappointed that this wrench didn't have a 5/16 drive end as both were 1/4. I was expecting a somewhat similar 12-inch HBR5 version. I bought a premium VIM VHC77 kit which has half the bits as 5/16 hex so I figured this HBR12 would fit 5/16 bits as well. It isn't, except for using a socket, which defeats the entire purpose of the halving. Looking further, VIM doesn't even offer a 5/16 hex ratchet longer than the 5" HBR5 if the larger bits are the ones that require a longer ratchet for more torque. What a nonsense. Another disappointment was the plastic ratchet wheels and extremely sloppy flex end. The flexible end is a little tight in engagement, but gives about 3/16 of an inch of free play at the end when released. It reminds me of El Cheapo instruments from India. Also, the ratchet ends were rough for even a small tooth compared to a serrated wrench, which is buttery smooth. In addition, the chrome surface showed numerous indentations under the surface. And when I received it, there were 2 tiny screws on one end of the magnet so the bits couldn't be inserted. I know it's ok, but it shows that the key wasn't fully verified, which I find telling. I almost forgot that the plastic ratchets are very sloppy to engage. They will move at least 1/8 inch before the hex drive moves. The whole plastic wheel feels like impending breakdown. suggestions. He's already on his way back. But if the user has a specific need for a 1/4 Hex/Flex "only in 12" lengths, this wrench can be of great help. I don't currently have such a need. kd
