Review on GSI Outdoors Personal Java Press by Tyler Cash

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Used every day in the kitchen

I bought this coffee machine when I was in Afghanistan, it was a pain to clean it in the desert with limited running water. I used it several times before my roommate showed up with a kettle and instant coffee. As soon as I got home my Keurig died and I used this press in my kitchen to brew coffee every morning. I've used it a lot, every day for a year. I boiled water in a small saucepan and poured it into the press as soon as it boiled. Makes about two medium cups of coffee. In the summer I even started brewing cold coffee in the fridge overnight to enjoy it the next morning. My fiance wanted another Keurig but I wouldn't lose $100 if we didn't drink a lot of coffee and it worked. Also, you can't have a cold drink with Keurig overnight. Unfortunately I moved house and didn't have a kettle, I poured some water into the kettle, it boiled, I poured it into a java press and it cracked from the heat. I suspect the water in the kettle was too hot for him or I just used so much that my abs relaxed. I won't buy this for a camping press because I use instant coffee for camping these days (I carry less gear), but I could compare the GSI to kitchen quality coffee presses. Let's see who wins. Take it easy little press, you've served me well through a year of heavy coffee drinking and excelled at cold brews.
