Pretty cool for kitchen tools and gadgets

I've never had a mandolin so I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from it or could the blade be sharper? Was surprised. I use a lot of sweet potatoes for both my family and my dogs and they are very difficult to cut. I used this and it ran through them like clockwork. Wow! However, the next time I used it, it seemed more complicated. I don't know if I dulled the blade on all of these sweet potatoes, or maybe it just isn't made for softer foods like tomatoes. It works better with tougher vegetables. In any case, I don't use it as often as I'd expect, because it's usually more of a hassle to get it out, set it up, and then clean it (gently) than just cutting it. But if I'm cutting a lot of food or want to cut the same pieces, that's great. In fact, I bought it on purpose because I had a food dehydrator and wanted an even thickness so the food would dry out evenly. but my experiments with the dehydrator didn't go so well and i threw it away. I bought the recommended protective gloves because I was very afraid of cutting myself but found that I almost never use them. I am careful and use the blade guard/guide with no problems. I really like how you can stand it up on legs or use it over a bowl. I usually use it over a bowl. It has various notches on the bottom so it fits snugly around the edges of the bowl (various sizes) so everything is tight and secure.

Pros
  • Just what the busy chef needs in the kitchen: a simple, durable, compact tool that's quick and easy to use! Definitely saves time!
Cons
  • Overall ok but...
