Review on πŸš— Metra 99-5717 Taurus/Sable 04-07 Dash Kit: Upgrade & Enhance Your Car's Interior! by Mike Anderson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I would rate it on a difficulty scale of 1 to 10.

On a scale of difficulty from 1 to 10 I would rate the installation of this kit a 5. To install this kit you must remove and install the control circuits into the standard dash mount. This requires several tools that the average car owner may not have, including: a torx driver, a socket wrench, and a wire stripper/crimping tool. Luckily I already had everything I needed and didn't have to run to the store for anything. Everything goes smoothly with the right tools, just follow the instructions that came with the kit and transfer all the parts from the standard unit to this one. Prepare the wire harness, the bare wires connect to the wire harness that comes with the aftermarket radio and to the radio at the front of the car. The end of the Metra harness that has a male and female antenna connector goes all the way back into the trunk of the car where you disconnect the large bundle of wires and antenna from the stock amp and connect to this harness. The main difficulty is unclipping the carpet and reaching into the trunk to route the wiring harness under the back seat and into the trunk itself. The standard amplifier is installed in the wheel niche on the driver's side in the trunk. Overall the installation was very easy but time consuming and required a variety of tools. Getting into the trunk was the hardest part to be honest, but as I get older younger people shouldn't have a problem with that. If I had a major complaint it would be that the antenna adapter at the end of the trunk is loose, I had to use tape to keep the antenna from coming loose. Tip: Use the brackets (2 black plastic side parts in the Metra kit) instead of the supplied metal frame and screw the radio into the Metra kit. So you can use the matte plastic bezel that comes with the Metra instead of (probably) the glossy bezel that comes with the aftermarket radio. This gives a much cleaner look. I'll try to add a photo later.
