Review on 🎺 Denis Wick DW4930 Valve Oil: Precision Lubrication for Superior Instrument Performance - 1.7oz by James Wiley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good oil but there are a few problems.

I bought this oil because of the Denis Wick name and the fact that it has PTFE, a compound related to Teflon, in the ad. It also advertises itself as extremely durable. At first the bottle felt greasy when I took it out of the shipping carton. The oil appears to be migrating across the surfaces. After using it in my tube, the valve bodies always feel oily. If I clean them thoroughly and use them again, the oily feeling comes back. The applicator sometimes drips if I don't squeeze the bottle. And no matter how I clean the bottle myself, it quickly feels greasy again. I don't see this oil being particularly stubborn. I have to apply it more often than some other oils. It's a good product, but I don't think it's of the best quality and it's not particularly cheap. I will not buy it again. Too bad because I'm a fan of many other Wick products. Edit: I gave this oil to a friend with a Besson Eb tube (the product it was originally made for) and it made his valves as smooth as possible and only needs greasing every few weeks.

Pros
  • High quality petroleum distillate contains fewer impurities than other oils
Cons
  • Updates available
