Black finish that cracks in the cold

In the few months it has been new it has been great. I liked the look, it felt like a quality product and it didn't interfere with the exhaust noise too much. Then winter hit in full force (often below -30) and I can only imagine the intense cold followed by hot exhaust fumes caused the black trim to crack and chip. I only ride cleared city streets and have fenders, so it's unlikely that this damage was caused by rocks or debris (especially the bits on top of the peak where the rhino emblem is).
