Review on πŸ”ͺ DMT ADELUXE Diamond Whetstone Sharpener: The Ultimate Cutting Edge for Precision Sharpening by Victor Houser

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great stones/diamonds, crappy leveling tool.

I have been sharpening knives, axes, machetes, scissors, etc. by hand with diamond stones for over 6 years. I'm pretty good at sharpening, but after reading a book on the subject I realized that I'll never get my knives to "factory" sharpness without tools. So I ordered the DMT Deluxe kit hoping to get the perfect 20 or 18 degree grind on a knife. The small plastic tab in the alignment tool then broke off and it was impossible to get the tool to hold the angle as the degree "marks" on that tab/bar snapped. The tool became useless when I didn't want a bevel to be incredibly sharp. I immediately emailed DMT and explained my problem. I never received an answer. The injection molded plastic is brittle like a child's toy, and indeed the quality of the included bricks is sub-par (which I think were pretty damn good). just a few strokes and it would be better if i could finish it. Too bad and too bad that "Made in the USA" can sometimes mean "As cheaply made in China and with poor customer service!" - if a DMT kit was made from higher quality materials it would have been a great kit to go with that Make sharpening easier, especially when you have dozens of knives to sharpen. Unfortunately, it was not up to the quality of the knives it was sharpening and was returned - even after DMT was questioned and looking for a solution first.

Pros
  • No oil required - sharpen dry or with water
Cons
  • Slightly torn
