I haven't used my oxy-fuel torch since I moved in and couldn't find my welding goggles when I needed to make a small weld. I was willing to pay more for the auto dimming feature. To deter theft, I welded a nut onto a bolt on a bike rack on a clear summer day in the shade. Those glasses were useless. Once I heated the metal enough to "stroboscopically" weld the lenses, the dark flashed to glow, then the dark closed. I've tried all 3 darkness settings - 8, 10, 12 - with the same result. Fit, comfort and build quality were fine. Maybe these goggles would be good for arc welding (is it dark enough for "12"?).
