I'm an IT professional and I manage a large network for a living. I was very skeptical about this product as I had no experience with the powerline solution. I used to use matching wireless routers with a wireless bridge in between. I would use this connection between my main internet connection and the switch in my living room for an MP3 server, Xbox 360 and Squeezebox (music player). Copying files was cumbersome and slow, but it worked. Every month I had to reboot my wireless routers to fix the connection problem. Not the best solution, but it worked. And here is the power line. I set it up first without checking circuitry etc. It connected immediately with no problems. I was able to transfer files and it worked, but the speed wasn't much better. The next day I decided to read the manual and saw that the connection indicator was red. This indicated the lowest level of communication. I plugged the source's powerline adapter into a different outlet that I knew was on the same circuit and the Connect LED was green. God what's the difference. File transfer is great, backing up my files between computers is almost as fast as if they were on the same switch. Very very happy with the end results. Also, I've been using the product for about 2 months and haven't had a single connection problem.
