This device saved a life but more on that later. That's pretty much the size of your previous player. It has a simple body with buttons similar to those you might find on a player. The only difference is that it has a USB port and controls for recording and speaking on the back. The color is the standard light silver and one downside is that this item can be scratched fairly easily. It requires batteries to work autonomously, or you can plug it directly into your computer to power it. I wish the power plug was at least a mini USB cable so I can easily replace it. The batteries are in the player. It uses two AA batteries which are not included. I would recommend, if you want to record something, plug it directly into a computer or wall outlet. This takes time and the batteries can simply dry out before they die and you have to start over. My batteries lasted four hours before dying. I don't have disposable batteries to try. No software is required for this device. All you have to do is plug in your USB stick and start recording. It is recorded from the moment you start playing. You can still listen while recording, making it easy to create a separate MP3. To be honest I'll just edit later, as I don't have the patience to sit around and wait. However, the ENTIRE tape must be played when the entire tape is full, so this may take some time. As for the sound quality, it's as good as it gets for streaming from a cassette. I actually used it more for some old graduation speeches that my family friends wanted to keep. Cassette tapes wear out, so this device saved my life. It's pretty easy as I just let it play and pick up where I need it. The player plays well. He didn't eat my tape or anything. It didn't jam or lose tone, but the tapes are old and can break, so be careful when playing anything. Not a single button sticks, which is very good. It comes with headphones and unfortunately not the ones I would use. These headphones are pretty much the same as what gamers have seen in the past, minus the earcups. It's a bit cheap and just not the best headphone quality, so better use the ones that might have come with your phone. I use my Apple headphones that came with my iPod. All in all, this is a good thing if you want to listen to or convert your old tapes. I would suggest transforming them so they stay in your memory forever.
