Review on Super Compact Trunk Bike Rack by Michael Barrett

Compact, stable, not light; enables flexible planning

My fiancé has a small limousine. A few years ago she paid $200 to have a small hitch welded to her car and another $100 to get a bike rack for our bikes. We took it on a trip and it wobbles so badly you would expect it to fall off immediately despite secure connections. To top it off, this rack folds down to "just" 1 x 3 x 3 feet (not exactly compact for storage) and takes about ten minutes to fully install or remove with each use. In contrast, I just bought this bike rack for less than $50. It fits snugly in the back of my Mazda hatchback and the bike is clearly not going anywhere. The top and bottom straps tighten to secure the stand and the side straps tighten to prevent side-to-side wobble. The length of the strap seems redundant, but I used that excess to my advantage by tying it to the handlebars to prevent accidental movement there as well. It still takes about five minutes to install or uninstall, but that might be because I'm new to it. It folds to about 5 x 6 x 12 inches and fits nicely in the included pouch. The device is durable. It unfolds incredibly easily. It takes a bit of muscle power to fold it, but I think that's because the button pins (technical term) have to be strong enough to support the weight of two bikes, about 15 pounds (I'm no weight expert, but it is heavier than a gallon of milk and lighter than two gallons of milk). milk), so if I'm just driving for fun I probably won't take it. But because of its compact size, I could easily take it with me. I sometimes cycle to work, which allows for flexible planning: I don't have to cycle home and then somewhere, they can just pick me up - this bike rack fits in the back of almost any car. Towing my bike, but it's nice to know that I have the option to take it with me.
