Pilot jet miserable on stainless steel. But I overcame this by using a Milwaukee cone/stepped bit to make the pilot hole. The problem with a step drill is that it can be difficult to STOP RIGHT when your hole reaches the desired diameter - for that I prefer a drill that I can just drill straight through and thus that "crown". Using this two-bit technique, I've made many clean, quick cuts in 14-gauge 316 sheet stainless steel with a fairly typical Milwaukee 18v cordless hand drill. That's why I wanted it and so far it's working great.
