Review on Akebono ACT1259 ProACT Ultra Premium Ceramic by Troy Tec

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Do you have a CX-9?

You may be looking at this kit and the Hawk HPS. I have enjoyed using both the Hawk HPS for all 4 brakes and the Akebono ProACT for all 4 on my CX-9. I've had good experience with the Hawk HPS on a Mazda 3 in the past, which is a much lighter car. When I tried the Hawk HPS for about 1000 miles, I couldn't get on with the brakes. They always seemed squishy and soft. This made the car intimidating and diverted attention from driving to the brakes. I put in a higher quality brake fluid, which helped a little. Then I switched to ProACT. Wow. There was a big difference. Akebono has a slightly different (and simpler) braking guide and I followed it. I felt much more comfortable behind the wheel and knew I could stop constantly. Those are great brakes. The flour is gone. The braking feel is much more precise. If you buy them, buy a better quality anti-squeak lube. There is very little in the pack. Also pay attention to how and in which direction existing clips are inserted before deleting them! There is a particular way of placing them that you should pay attention to. The diagrams in the instructions are very difficult to see.

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • Can I add something?
