Review on Cooler Master Tempest GP27U: High Refresh Rate, Swivel Adjustment, Adaptive Sync, IPS Display by Justin Knox

Terrible local dimming, quality control issues?

I bought it as an upgrade for my trusty old Dell S2721DGF and returned it a few days later. While the HDR experience isn't bad, the SDR performance with and without local dimming is significantly worse than the monitor I've used before. I know the CM rep mentioned that there will be a firmware update coming out mid-November, but I'm not sure if it will fix any of the issues I was having. very bright, not afraid of fading. Cons: * Color bars are noticeably worse than my S2721DGF at the same 10-bit color settings. * Approximately 20 pixels left and right are not visible when looking at the monitor from the front. I'm not sure if this is a QC issue with my device or if it's a universal thing. * It's not possible to enable variable refresh rate, local dimming and HDR at the same time, but this will apparently be fixed when a firmware update comes out * Colors are severely eye-popping when local dimming is enabled, see attached image. As far as I remember the attached video was set to low with HDR + local dimming. *OSD controls are weird, but you'll get used to them

Pros
  • Ultra-fast IPS: Using a super-fast IPS panel enables faster pixel transition than traditional IPS panels, delivering a 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms pixel response time (GtG).
Cons
  • The monitor refresh rate is too slow.
