This is a truly unique children's gate. We use it in our kitchen because we like having the door open most of the time. Latching on this one is harder to use than most baby gates: there's a switch you have to turn on one side to swing the gate in or out, which is a maneuver you have to perform from the other side. If you don't pull enough, you'll have to flip the switch again. So I would use this for areas where you don't want to quickly snap/unlock multiple times. Although it's soft. I hated metal, my daughter was always hitting her head. It can be used on larger areas than most gates. And I love the kitchen which we have open 80% of the time. I like that I don't have to lock and unlock old gates or squeeze through a small hole through a latch.
