My new favorite flash

I was very happy to get the AD400 Pro as I liked using the original AD600BM and the Pro seemed like a very good upgrade. I didn't really need the full power of the 600 and heard the 400 was almost as bright as the original AD600 so I went with this one and took advantage of the smaller size, the included carrying case and the interchangeable bracket. out of the box I'm really glad I have the tote, it just makes it so much easier. I'm also glad that after switching to the Bowens mount, everything is back in the case, including the lamp, reflector and cap. Compared to the AD600, the flashlight itself is about the same weight, but I can easily hold it in one hand, which I couldn't with the 600. This makes it much easier to carry around on set. Of course the AD200 is also very portable, but the body isn't great for details like this, particularly the flash, which needs to be taken out. The charger doesn't fit either and I've always found this case useless, but not on the AD400 Pro. (In addition, using the AD400 with Bowens mounting hardware is also much easier than the AD200, and color consistency is also improved.) The AD400 Pro was about 2/3 stops less powerful than my original AD600 when I tested it. but the pilot light is much brighter, which is much more important to me personally. This modeling light is very useful for focusing in darker scenes, and I like having both full percentage power control and a proportional setting, which is particularly useful for rendering multiple lighting settings. Although the original AD600 had a TTL version, I don't have it. I am very happy that this feature is now standard on the Pro model, it comes in very handy when shooting quickly or when conditions change, and the TCM function with the Xpro trigger makes setup extremely quick even without a light meter. There are many other features. small details with significant impact that also make it a worthy upgrade. There's a true color mode, finer power adjustment in 1/10th increments, a slightly faster recharge time, slightly shorter flash duration, and a handy angle adjustment knob (very handy as the angle adjustment no longer clicks like the original AD600). Everything else I loved about the AD600/AD200 such as B. High speed sync and pretty impressive recharge times, has been carried over into this unit and overall I think it's pretty much the perfect flash and upgrade for the AD600. . The AD600 Pro is only really needed if you find you're consistently going beyond the performance or battery life of the original AD600, and I would only go to the AD200 if you want to do more with flash or the AD200's custom modifiers. The actual size of the AD200 can of course be an advantage, but in many cases it can be more trouble than it's worth compared to the simple and reliable AD400 Pro. Ignore the faces in the sample images; Most of my clients don't want their photos used for public posts, so my kids "helped" me take some samples for that.
