To be perfectly clear there are 12 strips in total, 8 large and 4 small. If you use the Velcro as a set, there are 6 sets in total. 4 large sets and 2 small sets. Also by packaging, here are the weight recommendations for hanging pictures in sets: Center strips: 8x10" to 3 lbs: one set in center top 11x17" to 6 lbs: two sets, one on each side top 18x24" to to 12 lbs : Four sets on the sides in each corner Small strips: 3x5" to 1 lb: One set at top center 5x7" to 2 lb: Two sets, one on each side near the top 8x10" " up to 4 lb: Four sets on the sides in each corner When used correctly they are the best! I made all mistakes before I learned how to use them. The first time I tugged on the command strip, I peeled the paint off the wall without pulling it straight down almost a foot. I stuck them to the walls that had been painted a week earlier and removing them removed that layer of paint (let's say wait 7 days but you really need to wait a month for the paint to cure well). But since then I've used the command bars with success again and again. I've even reused the velcro piece with regular command strips with no problem.
