Not what I expected

I bought two of these and was a bit disappointed when I couldn't get them to turn on. I thought I had bad lightbulbs or maybe a bad socket. I've changed outlets and lightbulbs to no avail. I was finally able to get the lightbulbs to work after my mom and I tried to get the lightbulb properly plugged into the socket. I was dissatisfied with how difficult it was to get a regular incandescent bulb to work in these lamps.
