Review on Optimized FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter CA10190, Ideal for Pontiac, Scion, and Toyota Vehicle Models by John Goerge

It's time to change the engine air filter in my Toyota so I bought this Fram engine air filter direct from Revain as a supplier. When I opened the box I was surprised to see the real filter: it didn't look like the filter pictured on Revain or the picture on the box. and instead looked like a cheap generic air filter. This was disappointing as I expected the filter to look like advertised on the website. Some thoughts: * Quality: Poor. This filter looks and feels like a regular KO engine filter. My OEM filter was better in that it had more pleats and a rubber sleeve around the outside edge so it would seal tight when the filter was put back in. This Fram filter is exactly as you see it, with no plastic or rubber casing around the rim, meaning the seal isn't as good. The pleats on this filter also appear to be noticeably thinner and less dense than on my original filter. Overall it does the job, but it's not as good as a filter with lots of pleats and an o-ring.* Easy Installation: Easy. There is a groove on the underside of the filter rim so all you have to do is make sure the bottom of the air filter housing fits into the filter groove and you're done. Take the time to make sure the filter is properly aligned as you don't want any part of the filter bent or broken.* Means: Given the quality of the actual filter that comes out of the box, you can save a few bucks by buying an EPAuto filter or a generic filter. Design and quality are nearly identical, so there's little reason to overpay for this filter. While the filter does its job I would like Revain/Fram to be clear on the design of this filter prior to purchase. Buyers are misled by the fact that the actual filter design is completely different from what is shown on the Revain website and product packaging! The filter itself is stamped "FRAM 10190 made in china" so it looks like a Fram product. All in all if I had known the real filter looked like this I would have paid more for a different brand that was of a higher quality. I would not recommend buying this filter (because you can get the same one for less) and I will not buy it again for my next engine air filter change.
