08 FJ Cruiser 122km. OME suspension. I've always had this sound, like two pucks hitting each other. Something like a slight jingling with a short but high pitched tone. Mostly when the damper goes down. I suspected the sway bar hit the spring bar and removed the sway bar. The sound stayed. I then guessed that when fully extended the spring simply pushes through the strut. I went insane trying to find the source of this and never found it. Until my strut isolator bushings started breaking and I replaced the tops and bushings with these KYB kits. As it turns out. The OEM fasteners for the shock absorber isolator bushing and the washers around the top tabs are in this order from bottom to top. Washer>Lower bushing>Upper bushing>Upper bushing>Upper bushing>Washer>Nut. Having removed the old top liner, I now suspect that the noise I heard was coming from the washer over the bottom liner hitting the cylinder itself. OEM units use a special washer. to align the rack inwards. It's a metal-on-metal situation, once the bushings start to move they allow those parts to separate temporarily as the shock expands rapidly and collides with each other again. The KYB kits have a bushing shaped like the old bushing and washer combo. This eliminates this noise altogether. Many thanks to KYB for the development. You solved a problem I wasn't sure about. I haven't heard that annoying noise since the first time I pulled out of my driveway since installing this kit. Highly recommended.
