I have been considering buying a personal blender for over a year. I have a giant ninja that works great but after that it's really hard to clean my ass and I always end up doing too much with it. The only reason I hesitated for so long was because all of the negative reviews aren't necessarily unique to this product, they apply to almost ALL personal blenders under $30. I had severe headaches the whole time I spent studying them. In the end I gritted my teeth and bought this Black & Decker Fusion Blade Personal Blender. Long name, amazing results. (Haha, don't sue me.) While I was hoping to stay under $20, I didn't really like the idea of a $15 blender that broke right away, and I had no choice but to buy another one . I'm pretty humble; I'd rather learn from other people's mistakes than make my own when I can. And hopefully some of you can learn from me. Overall I would give this blender about 3.5 stars but torn between 3 and 4 I had to lean towards 4. This is not because it is a super great quality product. accurate, but if you use it right, it gets the job done. What is more important? Immediately I realize that the plastic is not the best quality under the sun. It's not that flashy and looks almost like a toy (you'd understand if you saw it live). That being said, I didn't buy this blender for its looks - if that's important to you, feel free to weigh your options. It's not ugly - it's just ugly. Now that that's not the case, let's get to the important stuff! PRO 1 - It comes with TWO bottles with matching caps. This is great in case you accidentally break one of them (because replacing it costs about 2/3 the cost of the blender itself and isn't worth it), and also if you want to do it for someone else. still. My regular roommate is my polar opposite in many ways, including a taste for cocktails. If she spots peanut butter or bananas, she will run away. I assume you can also make two smoothies at once and save the other one for later, although I haven't tested putting it in the freezer yet. I think it must be good. PRO 2 is relatively small. This is especially handy if you don't have a lot of counter or closet space. PRO 3 is a 275W motor. And yes, it's a pro! The reason for this is that many competing hand blenders don't even break the 200W threshold. hold up.PRO 4 - SIMPLE. CLEAN. HIGH. If you've never owned a blender, just take my word for it - cleaning these things is the biggest pain in the ass. Especially if you have blades that go all the way through, not just underneath. Even though I have a great ninja blender, I rarely touch it because it's so difficult to wash afterwards. In this case, simply rinse the blade off and it's ready for use again. This is probably my favorite feature, at least for me personally. I feel so spoiled when I go to the dry cleaners and everything is done in literally two minutes. PRO 5 - It mixes ice VERY well! I use the Cubette mini ice trays (about $5-6 here at Revain) and have had absolutely no problems with them. I haven't used large, full-size ice cubes, but I think it can handle one or two. Pulse slowly, not all at once. PRO 6 - You can press one button and mix continuously, or you have the option of pressing a button to pulse manually. Personally, I'm a fan of the pulse method. And boo, and here are other things. CON 1 – Plastic is ugly. I only bought the red blender though, so I can't be truthful about all the other colors. I can't imagine that they will be too different. CON 2 - Lids are weird. This might work if you're drinking a particularly thin smoothie, but it seems like it's a bit impractical for thicker drinks. The nose is also an unusual shape. I honestly don't care, but at the same time I really don't use caps as much as they are. I drink my cocktails at home most of the time, so I don't even close the lid. I just stick a straw in and bang. All is well. Although I think that a lid, while a little inconvenient, is still better than not having one. So yes. CONS 3. Although the motor is more powerful than most other personal blenders in this general price range, it's still a relatively small motor. Because of this, I wouldn't advise holding the button for more than 10 seconds. A little more, and yes, you will start smelling burnt plastic. The smell is quite faint and completely disappears after a few seconds if you stop mixing once you smell it. This smell is basically a little engine breath, like "okay, that's enough, that's enough!" That's a funny dude. He's trying. I knew this was to be expected after reading other reviews so I knew exactly how to deal with it. All you have to do is stick to manual pulsing. I mixed everything: kale, strawberries, peanut butter, bananas, ice cream, yogurt, cocoa, and protein powder. None of my previous drinks have taken more than 30-60 seconds to finish mixing - maybe less, to be honest. Just click, click, click, click, click. Break. Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. Break. Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. Did. It's not really a big deal, but it's technically a scam and you should be aware of it before purchasing this product. If you hold the button down for too long you will smell burning plastic and your engine will likely wear out much faster. Just remember to be patient and calm down and I promise it works like a charm. And the last tip - you should not only be careful with pulsation. In general, do not use unnecessary force. Don't try to screw it in tight - do it lightly until you hear it click into place; takes about a second. I know it might not seem so secure, but I haven't had any leaks yet. If you're rude and try to screw it down, you'll likely break the cap or bottle, rendering it useless. If you allow your kids to use it, be sure to show them how to do it and explain the importance of doing it carefully. If you're gentle, it really holds up and blends in beautifully. And that's it. I bought this item at full price with my own money so this is a totally non-binding review! Everything I've said is my honest opinion and I've posted it here in hopes of helping someone else make a better decision for them. Will definitely be updated in the future if something goes wrong; If I don't update, assume everything is fine. No news is good news!
