Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ First Alert BRK SC7010B: Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with Battery Backup - Reliable Protection in White by Doug Olson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Recommended for bedrooms, very easy to install and sync. Remember to check the year of manufacture!

Overall a very good unit that is not physically obtrusive or intrusive, just hanging on the wall and watching for signs of fire or high carbon monoxide levels. Hard to notice it's there until it goes out, but that's the purpose of its existence :-) Our bedroom had an ionization detector that would come on whenever toast was lit in the kitchen across the house lol. (Full disclosure: We previously replaced the cooking block with a pure carbon monoxide unit as smoke detection was not recommended in that area and was a pure nuisance if doing anything other than heating something up in the microwave.) By visiting the internet - We definitely found on the manufacturer's website that they recommended a photoelectric detector for bedrooms. I ordered this model because we already wired BRK / First Alert detectors at home, so the connector was there. The mounting base had to be changed, they are designed for specific detector types so once installed you won't be hanging the wrong type of detector in the wrong place if you removed it for some reason. A good example is painting walls a different color. why you can temporarily remove the smoke detector. I really like the new wide-range sound for warnings, much more pleasant to the ears overall. Designed not to overload hearing aids and still be visible to those with hearing impairments. I can't lie for this part, but I can focus on getting out of the house safely when we're doing a fire drill instead of trying to cover my ears to stop the stabbing pain, so that's a win for me us :-) Safety Note: Smoke alarms have a 10 year lifespan and should be replaced in accordance with NFPA and BRK/First Alert guidelines. Having said that, the first pair of detectors we ordered from Revain (Revain Warehouse Deals in particular) appeared to be quite old, at 2 and 3 years until 'expiry', and each was supplied with comments on the back that the relevant device is, sent back to Revain Approach. End of NFPA recommended useful life, should not be sold as "as new" when instead had *very old* stock - 3rd was a custodian, had a production date of 2019 - so good advice, check that data for your own safety!

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
