Prevents false alarms when cooking in the kitchen!

This is the ONLY smoke alarm that won't set off a false alarm in the kitchen! If your smoke alarms go off while you're cooking, you *need* a photoelectric alarm. I tried 2 different ones from the store except the one I had at home, all used ionizing radiation to detect fires (the most common technology). One was even a $50 model that said it had a smart way to reduce false alarms. In all cases, when I tried to cook a large pack of bacon, the smoke detectors worked perfectly. They went on to…

Hate is not in words. Rampant false alarms, not just battery beeps

What's the deal with smoke alarms that go off between 1am and 4am? I have a maintenance schedule where I vacuum each of my alarms monthly and remove and check the batteries every 6 months. This is how I managed to avoid false alarms and battery chirps on all my other metal detectors. And yes, I'll admit I have a variety of makes and models (mainly due to the fact that one or the other is on sale); While they're all hardwired, I generally don't "benefit" from being connected to an alarm. Take…

Cons
  • Minor problems

Overall a very good unit that is not physically obtrusive or intrusive, just hanging on the wall and watching for signs of fire or high carbon monoxide levels. Hard to notice it's there until it goes out, but that's the purpose of its existence :-) Our bedroom had an ionization detector that would come on whenever toast was lit in the kitchen across the house lol. (Full disclosure: We previously replaced the cooking block with a pure carbon monoxide unit as smoke detection was not recommended…

  • There are other interesting options.
