Review on 🎢 Nobsound Little Bear T11: High-Fidelity Vacuum Tube Phono Turntable Preamplifier for LP Vinyl Records by Jeff Westra

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great sound as a buffer

I hooked this up to an old Kenwood system and a KD-5100 turntable. I used the tubes that came with it, but the tinny sound didn't bother me. I bought different tube sets, a set of "ugly" Mullard 12AX7 and a set of Russian 6N2P-EV rockets with a silver shield. The price difference between the two sets is slightly better, the Mullards are slightly better, but the 6N2Ps are also excellent and offer a full midrange with great highs and lows. Noise and hum is an absolute problem with this thing. Use aluminum tube shields on all three main lamps and you must ground the left shield (V1) and the background will be greatly reduced. I also upgraded the power tube to a Russian 6S4P tube and heard a noticeable improvement in sound quality. So far I am delighted with this preamp and the wonderful sound it produces with my vinyl collection. I give 5 stars for the sound (with new tubes) and 1 star for the preamp design. Why on earth did the designers put the RCA jacks and ground on the front panel? Because of this, the whole block looks like it was designed by a three-year-old kid. It's just gross to look at, but the sound quality makes it worth keeping. I hope they release a T12 version that fixes the hum and connector issues. One last thing I found out about the hum was to check your wi-fi router as mine was causing hum and I had to move it and the antennas to mute the preamp. Edit 12-7-19. I just modified it to be a buffer between my Kenwood Basic C2 preamp and the Kenwood Basic M2 amp. WOW what a difference to my system. Now it sounds like a 220W tube system. Insanely good sound. I tried this after reading some iTube2 reviews as a buffer. This thing has 1 tube, the T11 has 4, so it should be better right? YES, THAT'S RIGHT.

Pros
  • Adopting a traditional RIAA active phono stage circuit. There are 3 metal caps and 4 acrylic caps for these tubes. And you can choose which style you like.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
